AENOR recognizes Danone Waters’ commitment with the environment and the circular economy by granting the certificate that indicates that its rPET plastic bottles manufactured at Sant Hilari Sacalm have been produced entirely with recycled plastic. In this way, Danone Waters becomes into the first company in the natural mineral water sector to receive this distinction form AENOR.
This recognition supports the commitment of this company, and other producers that are following its example, to offer their products without extracting new resources from the planet. Offer the possibility of making a responsible purchase backed by the AENOR certification shows their commitment with the environmental values shared by society as a whole.
Danone Waters must include the AENOR labels of products manufactured and certified with 100% rPET from other bottles, which are initially: 75cl from Font Vella trademark, 75cl and 50cl from Lanjarón trademark and, in restoration: 1, 5L and 50cl of Font Vella, all of them manufactured in its factory in Sant Hilari Sacalm.
Likewise, Danone Waters plans to enlarge this certification to all its bottles manufactured in rPET by the year 2025. In that moment the entire production will be made of this material. Specifically, for Lanjarón, it is estimated that by the end of this year all this brand's products will be made with 100% recycled post-consumer plastic rPET.
To grant this certification, AENOR has carried out the following works, within the scope of AENOR's RP E17.02 for recycled content:
- On-site audit (at client's facilities)
- Documentary analysis of the procedures used to verify that the post-consumer recycled material has been certainly used
- Verify the control of the post-consumer origin of the rPET material (by using the AENOR certificates in accordance with RP E17.01 for Plastic recycling traceability as a demonstration element)
- Check the internal control of the complete production process of the 'preforms' in its facilities (from the reception of the raw material in tanks to the final injection of the preform that will become a bottle at the Font Vella and Lanjarón bottling plants).
With this AENOR certification, the companies go one step further on spreading the message to stop understanding single-use plastics, claiming the need to create a trusted secondary market for recycled plastic, both in quantity and quality, that accelerates the transition towards this type of material (rPET) that can be integrated into all products, aligning the production and use of recycled plastic with the demands of our society, increasingly concerned about responsible and sustainable consumption.
